Peter Taylor

planting in VAUXHALL

Peter became a Christian as a teenager through attending an Evangelical Movement of Wales camp.

In a sermon on hell, he realised for the first time that he needed to submit to Jesus and that understanding the gospel was simply not enough.

After school he studied Medieval History at St Andrew’s University. Upon graduation he went to Moscow, where he undertook an internship in the equity research department of an investment bank. He also taught English as a Foreign Language and English Literature to private business clients and students at Moscow State Linguistic University. He found that he enjoyed sharing the Bible with his students more than he enjoyed teaching them English! Others therefore encouraged him to attend the Cornhill Training Course in London. After Cornhill Peter studied for a PGCE at Sussex University and taught in a school in Gloucestershire.

During this time he went through the process of being recommended and accepted for ordination in the Church of England through Christ Church, Clifton. After being approved by the Bishop’s Advisory Panel, he studied at Oak Hill Theological College. For six years he then served in parishes on the south coast both as a curate and vicar. During this time he also ran a soup kitchen and served as a school chaplain. He was thrilled to see a number put their faith in Christ.

He came to London to explore the possibility of church planting, and for the last year has assisted in co-ordinating the Victoria Mission. He is working in partnership with London City Mission to plant a church in Vauxhall, reaching out to the Spring Gardens Estate. And he is formulating plans to reach the massive area of redevelopment towards the south in Battersea and Nine Elms.
